At present, the situation in Germany regarding professional qualifications is as follows: There are less than 400 occupations for which there is a state-approved, clearly defined vocational training framework leading to a standardized qualification (e.g. for physiotherapists). In contrast, the total number of definably different types of job which people actually perform has been estimated at over 10,000.
To date, equine assisted therapy or therapeutic horseback riding is not included in the category of state registered occupations. This means that institutions offering corresponding courses of training can devise a curriculum as they see fit, and the 'market value' of the certificates which they issue to successful students is determined entirely on the basis of potential employers' experience and opinions, or in the case of practitioners offering their services on a freelance basis by the free market itself.
In turn, these factors are governed by the quality of the instruction and the extent to which the course content is related to practical requirements. And that is why we pay extremely close attention to these requirements.
